How It Works

Shockwave is a type of sound wave generated in two forms: radial and focused, but our treatment most often utilizes the radial form. Radial shockwave is a “pressure wave” localized in the target tissues, created using a pneumatic effect. Compressed air is used to fire a projectile within a guided tube. The projectile then strikes a metal applicator placed against the patients’ skin which creates stress waves in the applicator that transmits pressure waves into the target tissue. The shockwave breaks up calcifications and causes tissue deformation, which generates an inflammatory cascade.
